Basics
In olden days, students has to learn 4 vedas, minimum of 10 upanishads and 6 shastras.
They are as follows
Rig veda, Sama veda, Yajur veda and Atharva.
Most of the students will be taught only 3 vedas and they were called thrivedis and atharva veda is considered very secret and only chathurvedis were allowed to learn and practice.
Isham, Kadam, Kenam, Mundakam, Mandookyam, Prashnam, Thaithareeyam, Ithareeyam, Brihadaranyakam and Chandokyam were the 10 upanishads a student should learn minimum in the upanishads section. There are around 108 upanishads.
Shiksha, Kalpam, Niruktam, Chandas, Jyothishm(astrology), Vyakaranam (vedic mathematics) were the 6 shastras
In recent past, all these knowledge has become a big business. People with little knowledge reads old texts and interpret, then publish in internet and started making money.
Astrology and Mantrika/Tantric techniques evolved as the number one business in this area. Anything which must happen in the nature will happen and we cannot prevent it. Smaller things can be changed and with certain pujas , we can reduce the ill effects but you cannot completely change. To change completely, 7 things has to come together which is related to 7 lokas and 7 chakras in kundalini for which a atharvic person should be there or a yogi who has crossed sahasrara has to get involved.
Let us understand the beginning of this world:
Creation was not purposeful or intentional by anyone or anything. it just happenned and if you try to understand what was the state before, you cannot as your brain has limitations in going back and imagining. The whole universe was one and the bhutas split (Panja bhutas or 5 bhutas which are earth, water, fire , air and space ) and that is where the big bang happenned. After the big bang, the count down started which is considered as the life of this universe and life of all living and non living particles/objects.
Life of this universe has reached its middle meaning this is the 7th manuanthara. There are 14 manuantharas which are related to 14 lokas and 14 kundalini chakras.
Each manuanthara has 4 yugas which are Satya yuga, Treta yuga, Dwapara yuga, Kali yuga. We are crossing the 7th manuanthara and in the 7th manuanthara, this the kali yuga which is going on.
Satya-yuga 1,728,000 years. The duration of the Treta-yuga is 1,296,000 years. The duration of the Dvapara-yuga is 864,000 years. And the last, the Kali-yuga, is 432,000.
The first known scientist in this world was kanada (not considering yogis as scientists in this.)
Kanada theory is as follows: (Atomic theory)

It is important to understand the atomic theory when you firther study protons, neutrons and electrons and start relating to Brahma, Vishnu, Maheshwara , 3 nadis (Ida, Pingala and Sushmana) and also to 3 main lokas out of 14.
The search for truth never ends as we live in the world of maya or illusion. Ultimately, one want to be one with the Brahma or be in the vishnupada in other words.

Guru: A real guru is defined as follows:
"Gurosthu maunam vyakyanam shishyathu hinna samshaya"
Once you find a guru, he will tell you about your Karma pada. if you do not have the fate to learn in this birth, do not attempt to study. If fate is there for you, you will find the real guru.
Guru will instruct you as to which method you have to follow.
* Bhakti marga/yoga
* Karma yoga/pada
* Jnana yoga
* Raja yoga
Path for you will be selected based on which varna you belong to like Brahmana, Kshatriya, Vaishya , Shoodra and also your body type, interests etc.
